The QSTP startup community attended an exclusive workshop led by Dr. Mohamed G. Elfeky, Principal Software Engineer, from Qatar Computing Research Institute (QCRI). The session explored the features of Fanar, an Arabic generative AI platform designed to make AI more inclusive and preserve the Arabic language. Fanar also bridges Arabic language and culture with the latest advancements in AI. The workshop encouraged discussions on dialects, cultural adaptation, and the future of Arabic AI.

Here’s a few highlights from the session: 

1. Walkthrough of 7 Core Features
Dr. Elfeky discussed Fanar’s seven core features and their real-world impact. Aside from Arabic text-to-speech and speech-to-text, advanced reasoning, and fact-checking, the session highlighted how Fanar’s in-house LLM, image generation, and multi-modal Q&A is a uniquely Arabic-first AI solution.

2. Live Demo of Fanar
The live demo showcased these capabilities in action, focusing on Fanar’s responsiveness and accuracy in real-time scenarios. Attendees saw how the platform processes natural Arabic input, adapts to context, and delivers verified, relevant outputs, reinforcing its potential for business, research, and everyday applications. 

3. Honest Conversations on Western Bias 
When asked to clarify how Fanar handles bias, Dr. Elfeky explained that its text generation remains neutral while applying an anti-bias balance. He emphasized that what some may call ‘bias’ is better understood as cultural adaptation, particularly in image generation and the handling of Islamic prompts, to ensure outputs are contextually appropriate and respectful. 

4. A Preview of Fanar 2.0 and API Access
The session wrapped up with a look at Fanar 2.0, coming soon in October 2025, which will feature a more powerful model, longer text processing, and new capabilities like voice and dialect personalization, along with image, video, and audio support. As a special offer for the QSTP community, attendees were invited to scan QR codes for three months of free API access to test these advanced features firsthand.
