When you work closely within an organization, you come to know it in ways an outsider cannot. You understand its history, its relationships, how decisions are made, where opportunities lie, and the realities that shape what is possible. But that familiarity can also make it harder to notice the things that someone encountering it for the first time might immediately question.
That idea sits at the heart of the QSTP Fellowship Program, which this year welcomes 15 professionals from Qatar, the region, and around the world for a four-month journey inside Qatar Science & Technology Park (QSTP). Rather than simply introducing Fellows to Qatar’s innovation ecosystem, the program invites them to bring their own experience into it, offering fresh perspectives on real challenges and opportunities across QSTP.
The cohort reflects that ambition. Its Fellows bring experience across deep tech, venture capital, artificial intelligence, biotechnology, digital transformation, urban mobility, education, entrepreneurship, product growth, social innovation, and governance. Some have spent years working with startups and investors, while others have built expertise in research, technology, policy, community development, and organizational transformation.
What connects them is not a shared profession, but the different perspectives they can bring to the same innovation ecosystem.
Looking at QSTP from the outside in
QSTP teams already carry the institutional knowledge that comes from working within the organization: an understanding of its priorities, relationships, opportunities, and constraints. Fellows arrive without all of those assumptions. They bring experience from other organizations, industries, markets, and countries, as well as networks and ways of approaching problems that may be unfamiliar to QSTP.
The value of that outside perspective, however, is not simply in questioning how things are done. Fellows are encouraged to challenge ideas with evidence, research, benchmarks, and stakeholder insights, bringing another layer of thinking to the work already happening across the organization.

Challenge anything. Bring evidence.
This is also what distinguishes the Fellowship from an internship or a traditional learning experience. The Fellows are experienced professionals, and their role is not to receive a list of tasks or spend four months observing QSTP from the sidelines. They are expected to learn about the organization while contributing their own expertise, eventually taking ownership of meaningful work that responds to an existing challenge or opportunity.
From understanding QSTP to contributing to it
That contribution will take shape gradually. During their first month, the Fellows will meet teams across QSTP and gain a broader understanding of what they do, the initiatives they are working on, and the challenges they are trying to address. They will then spend several weeks experiencing different parts of the organization before identifying where their interests and expertise could be most useful.
The matching process considers each Fellow’s preferences and skills alongside QSTP’s needs and the opportunities available within different teams. From there, each Fellow will be paired with a Professional Buddy and focus on an initiative they can meaningfully help move forward. The Buddy serves as their main point of connection within QSTP, providing context, guidance, feedback, and support throughout the Fellowship.
This approach makes the Fellowship a two-way commitment. Fellows are expected to be proactive, share their experience and networks, ask questions, take ownership, and remain open to learning. QSTP teams, in turn, provide the context and access they need, involve them in relevant conversations, make introductions, remove barriers, and provide regular feedback.

What will be different four months from now?
For QSTP, the success of the Fellowship will ultimately be measured less by what the Fellows participate in and more by what comes out of that participation. Attending meetings, conducting research, and preparing presentations can all be part of the process, but the program is designed to look beyond activity toward tangible outcomes.
That could mean helping move a partnership forward, developing a strategy that is put into practice, opening a valuable network, launching an initiative, or creating a new pilot or collaboration. The question guiding that work is deliberately practical: if a Fellow succeeds, what will exist, improve, launch, close, or change that does not exist today?
Four months from now, the Fellows and QSTP teams will come together at the Fellowship Gala. By then, the aim is not simply to mark the completion of a program, but to look back at what each Fellow was able to contribute and what QSTP was able to learn from having a different perspective in the room.

We won’t celebrate that they finished. We’ll celebrate what they changed.
For the 15 Fellows beginning that journey, the coming months offer a chance to get to know QSTP from the inside. For QSTP, they offer something just as valuable: a chance to see itself through a new set of eyes.
